Onward    Hebrew

Picture

Hebrew   learning   that   is   engaging,
successful   and    fun  !

Really, wouldn't you like your students' experiences to be different from the decades old model of learning Hebrew in part-time/synagogue settings? You know, the one that spends years of letter recognition work and reading drills ... with sixth graders still not able to decode fluently and accurately?

Onward Hebrew has flipped the model by honoring how children learn languages - sounds first (hearing language) and then the print (decoding/reading). Directors that have adopted the Onward Hebrew approach tell us that it brings energy and enthusiasm to Hebrew learning. Moreso, research has shown that Onward Hebrew students feel a warm connection to Hebrew AND develop into competent and confident "pray-ers."

If you are new to Onward Hebrew, start with the "Go-To Resource" posted toward the top of this webpage - it has general information about the approach and helps answer a myriad of questions including how to create a sound-to-print Hebrew environment even when your teachers might not be comfortable with Hebrew, themselves.

Take advantage of personalized attention, whether you are new to the approach or a director that has been implementing Onward Hebrew for a while. Nachama Skolnik Moskowitz (Director, Onward Hebrew), is always happy to have a conversation that will focus specifically on you and your program. Contact her at [email protected].

We invite you to start your journey on this website by clicking the "Find It!" tab, above or clicking here.

celebrating   those   that   have    adopted   Onward   hebrew!

Onward Hebrew is delighted to share the current map of 77 synagogue/part-time educational programs that have officially adopted the principles of sound-to-print learning. Together they energize Hebrew education for over 11,000 students annually by:
  • Adopting Hebrew Through Movement
  • Enriching Hebrew usage in t'fillah/worship
  • Integrating Jewish Life Vocabulary
  • Introducing Hebrew decoding with attention to sound-to-print learning
To connect with Onward Hebrew colleagues in your community, click this link for an interactive version of the map and enlarge your area of the country  ... there are a lot of overlapping pins in some cities!
